The Android tablet market isn’t anywhere near its smartphone counterpart. Matter of fact, the two markets are the opposite of each other, but the likes of Xiaomi, Huawei, and, of course, Samsung, are all making efforts to keep tablets alive.

However, unlike the latter two that have remained consistent with new slates nearly every year, Xiaomi didn’t renew the 2018 Mi Pad 4 and Mi Pad 4 Plus in 2019. Word on the street is that the Mi Pad 5 could still see the light at some point this year, but nothing concrete so far.

Quite unfortunate for Mi Pad fans, but given the raw power of the Mi Pad 4 and it’s Plus counterpart, it shouldn’t be a problem getting the best out of them less than two years down the line. But to make them even better, software updates are inevitable.

For some reason, though, Xiaomi thinks otherwise. As it stands, the Mi Pad 4 MIUI 12 update isn’t in the company’s plans. That means the two will be stuck on the current MIUI 10 version having launched with MIUI 9 pre-installed on top of Oreo.

There is no MIUI 12 Beta and Stable Version release plan for Mi Pad Series. If there is any changes then it will be informed, Till then stay tuned on Mi Global community.

Owners of the tablets shouldn’t be surprised by this move, though. For a company that is known to roll out multiple MIUI updates to its devices, the Mi Pad 4 missing out on MIUI 11, not even MIUI 12, was the first red flag that Xiaomi might no longer support the slates.

On the brighter side, the good guys at XDA Developers already have stable custom ROMs that should play nicely with the Mi Pad 4 and Mi Pad 4 Plus. For instance, you can already install the latest Android 10 OS via LineageOS 17.1, although still in beta. Details here.

We will update this story in the event that Xiaomi changes its stance.
