This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (from March 04) follows:
Xiaomi, after weeks of waiting, finally rolled out Mi A3 Android 10 update a few days back. However, the update had to be stopped due to the fingerprint issue, leaving users frustrated and disappointed.
Xiaomi was quick to admit the issue and noted that its developers are working to fix the issue. Meanwhile, for those who updated their Mi A3 to Android 10, the company shared a workaround for the fingerprint issue.
It is possible that many who were able to update their devices to Android 10 tried to roll back to the previous version so as to continue using their device without any issues. For such users and for others who may want to roll back to Android Pie for other reasons after Mi A3 Android 10 update, Xiaomi came out with a warning.
Xiaomi asked such users not to roll back to Android Pie after Mi A3 Android 10 update as it could result in error and defects. The warning was not just for the Mi A3 users, but for Mi A2 users as well. In a note on Mi Community, the company said:
Please note that your device should not be attempted to roll back to Android P (Android 9) once it got updated to Android 10. Since Android Q brings many irreversible updates to the system, rolling back to previous versions may cause errors and defects, which can have an adverse effect on the normal functioning of your device
A point to note is that it is not the first time the company has come up with such a warning. It came out with the same warning last year for the Mi A1, Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite users. At the time, the company warned users against rolling back to Android O or previous versions after updating to Android P (Android 9).
Moreover, even Google came up with an anti-rollback feature sometime back. The rollback protection feature act as an addition security layer, and comes useful when a device get stolen.
Usually, hackers or thieves try to downgrade to a previous version of the OS to get into a device. This feature stops the device from booting if someone tries to tamper with the software. It is possible that Xiaomi’s warning is based on this feature only.
