Xiaomi Mi 9T/Redmi K20 Android 11 lag issue in system & apps like Notes is a known one; fix in the works

The Xiaomi Mi 9T is one of the more recent devices to bag Android 11 globally. While it was indeed treated to the update back in March in China, the global regions have been rather late to the party.

Outside China, the global variant (Xiaomi Mi 9T) was the first one to receive Android 11 in late May followed by the Indian one (Xiaomi Redmi K20) a week later. However, these were rolled out only to select users.

But even with such a selective rollout, we have already begun to see several complaints regarding performance issues plaguing the device.

As clear from the above reports, there is plenty of system lag in the Android 11-based MIUI 12 build for the Xiaomi Mi 9T which results in laggy scrolling, input delays, camera lags, app freezes, and whatnot.

The lag issues are particularly noticeable on the Notes app though wherein typing becomes a tedious process – letters take time to show up on the display due to significant input delay.

Now, it is worth mentioning here that complaints of performance issues and the onset of bugs are common across almost every device that has bagged Android 11-based MIUI 12 update.

In fact, the situation got so bad that Xiaomi acknowledged them in a recent QnA session, apologized for them, and promised to make performance an utmost priority with the upcoming MIUI 12.5 update.

Nonetheless, if you are one of the users facing lag issues on your Xiaomi Mi 9T or Redmi K20, then you will be pleased to know that the problems have now been officially acknowledged.

The acknowledgment comes in the form of a MIUI Weekly Bug Report. While the report is rather cryptic, it seems to say that the root cause of the system lags is ‘home freezes’ and cache issues.

Either way, a fix is already being worked upon and will be integrated into a future build:

The performance is integrated into the process management plan, and it is expected to be integrated on 6/11.

This can possibly result in a delayed wider Android 11 stable update rollout for all.
