Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer/Transparent Edition MIUI 12 stable update rolling out

Xiaomi has multiple variants of the Mi 9 and one of them is the Mi 9 Explorer Edition, otherwise known as Mi 9 Transparent Edition. This handset is sold in China and well, no other markets, at least not officially.

This was also the case even with its predecessor that remained a China-exclusive, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. But this is not why we are here, instead, let’s talk software updates, more specifically for the Mi 9 Explorer Edition.

As of this writing, reports emerging from China can confirm that the stable MIUI 12 update is available for the Mi 9 Explorer Edition. Arriving over the air, the update has software version 12.0.2.0.QFACNXM.

Unlike its predecessor that has a separate MIUI ROM maintained independent of the standard Mi 8, the Mi 9 Transparent Edition walks the same path as the standard Mi 9. That is, two devices get the same firmware updates.

With that in mind, the same firmware that rolled out to the Chinese variant of the Mi 9 is the one arriving on the Explorer Edition, weighing in at the same 921MB.

This is an airborne update, meaning some users will have to wait for several days before they can actually install and enjoy MIUI 12 on their Mi 9 Transparent Edition. Rather than wait, we got you the download link for manual installation, but take this route at your own risk.
