New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 08, 2020) follows:

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro — aka the Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition — released back in 2018 running Android 8.1 Oreo alongside MIUI 10. Since then the device has picked up the Android 9 Pie update and even got the Android 10 update a few months ago.

And prior to the Android 10 update, the device even received the MIUI 11 update late last year. Thus, the Mi 8 Pro is currently running on Android 10 alongside MIUI 11. According to early reports, the stable MIUI 12 update for the Xiaomi Mi 8 was expected to arrive by the end of July or mid-August.

As it turns out, the Mi 8 did receive the update towards the beginning of July. But the Mi 8 Pro is yet to get the stable MIUI 12 update. Further, there was not much information regarding when users can expect to receive the update.

Fortunately, it seems that the update is not far away since Zhang Guoquan — director of Xiaomi’s mobile phone system software department — claimed that the MIUI 12 update for the Mi 8 Pro will be released next week, in a post on Weibo.

This comment was highlighted by a user on the Chinese social networking platform and you can see the official comment from the director below:

This means that Mi 8 Pro users only have to hold off a few more days until the MIUI 12 update drops. Of course, we now have to wait till next week to see whether or not the information turns out to be true.

You can keep an eye on our MIUI 12 update tracker to know when it arrives on your device. As usual, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update when we get a hold of new information or when the update goes live.

Update 1 (August 17)

Xiaomi has released the stable MIUI 12 update for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro as version 12.0.1.0.QECCNXM. The update is available via an OTA package. Further, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition and the Mi Max 3 have also picked up the update. Check out the full story here.
