[Updated] Xiaomi Mi 6 & Mi MIX 3 5G missing from global MIUI 12 update roadmap

Xiaomi is known to provide in-house MIUI updates to its devices across several releases. More often than not, these updates come sans Android OS upgrades, but with plenty of new features to make up for the aging OS.

The outgoing MIUI 11 came at the height of Android 10, but it still runs on some devices with the older Android Pie and even Oreo. The same will also be true for the new MIUI 12 that got announced for the global market on May 19.

Although it coincides with the launch of Android 11, only a handful of devices will receive MIUI 12 based on the new OS. By design, the Mi MIX 3 5G should be among them having arrived in 2019 powered by Android Pie out of the box.

Interestingly, though, the Mi MIX 3 5G MIUI 12 update is not the only one in doubt but also the update to Android 10 OS, leave alone the newer Android 11. Matter of fact, frustrated device owners are already petitioning for the release of Android 10 OS.

Heck, the Mi MIX 3 5G is still stuck on MIUI 10, which throws any chances of an update to MIUI 12 into further doubt. Now that Xiaomi hasn’t featured it on the official global MIUI 12 roadmap, it could well mean the device is forgotten.

Even though the Mi 6 is also missing from the global MIUI 12 update roadmap, it’s unlikely to miss out on the update. This is true because the device has been part of the MIUI 12 beta testing program in China, which should imply the global unit will get it too.

There were rumors that Xiaomi Mi 6 could be re-released this year thanks to the huge global success the device enjoyed. But it seems these were just rumors that may never materialize.

At this point, though, only Xiaomi knows why the two devices were omitted form the MIUI 12 update roadmap. Hopefully, we get to hear from the officials sooner than later.

Mi 6 users no longer have to speculate whether they will receive Android 10 and MIUI 12 updates. A moderator has confirmed the updates are not on the cards. See more details here.

Mi MIX 3 5G users will be disappointed to know that the device will not be receiving Android 10 according to Xiaomi’s customer care. But it might get the MIUI 12 update based on Android 9 Pie by the end of October. See the full story here.
