New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on May 25, 2021) follows:
The Xiaomi Mi Lite 4G and 5G both come with some pretty impressive display specifications.
The AMOLED panel used on both of them is capable of displaying a billion colors, supports HDR10, has a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 800 nits.
However, the otherwise excellent viewing experience is thwarted by a major display problem plaguing both devices. Users [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8] report that the devices’ display suffers from the infamous ‘black crush’ issue.
Mi 11 Lite screen problems? I’ve seen quite a lot talk going among the first users of this device about screen “anomalies” that look like black crush. Is anyone with the phone here facing problems with the phone’s display?

The ‘black crush’ issue is usually used to refer to a condition where a display panel outputs erratic colors and pixelated blocks when rendering blacks.
It is most noticeable in videos with darker backgrounds and when scrolling through the notifications panel. Of course, it will also be reproducible with other use cases involving the display of darker colors.
Nonetheless, if you are one of the users facing this bothersome problem, then you will find ‘comforting’ the fact that the Mi 11 Lite isn’t the only device suffering from the black crush issue.
As it stands, the issue has troubled several other devices in the past including the likes of the OnePlus 8 Pro and the Asus ROG Phone 3.
As for the OnePlus 8 Pro, the issue was confirmed by OnePlus as not being a hardware one and would be addressed with future software updates. And in the case of the ROG Phone 3, black crush has already been fixed through an update.
From this, it’s easy to conclude that the black crush issue on the Mi 11 Lite will be treated similarly in time. However, with no sign of an official acknowledgment, an ETA for a fix isn’t known.
A Redditor did state though that Xiaomi is already aware of the problem and is working on a fix, although we would advise taking it with a pinch of salt:
It’s a well known problem with Mi 11 Lite…AFAIK, Xiaomi said it was a software issue and it should be resolved with software fixes. And considering black crush as a amoled anomaly, I think it could be a purely software issue but also it could be a hardware one or just low quality panel.

Update 1 (August 12)
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite display problems when rendering blacks have now been acknowledged by a community moderator who says that the issue has been reported.
Thanks for reaching here in MIUI sub forum. Sorry for the inconvenience. This issue is already reported. Though you can send feedback through the Feedback app and wait for future updates.
