MIUI 13 has made plenty of headlines over the past few months thanks to multiple leaks and rumors.
It made its first appearance on an update changelog for the MIUI Cleaner app which had hinted towards an imminent release at the time.
Soon after, the Mi File Manager app bagged a massive update that brought along a complete visual overhaul along with new icons and transitions. It was declared by many a redesign for soon-to-release MIUI 13.
However, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jung laid all the rumors to rest earlier this month saying that MIUI 13 will be hitting devices only at the end of this year.
For the uninitiated, MIUI 13 is a major upgrade that will likely include a revamped interface, new icons, performance enhancements, a RAM expansion option, and a tweaked Control Center.
But fast forward to today and Xiaomi Indonesia GM Alvin Tse has now given out a new piece of info that goes against the statement from Lei Jun.
The executive revealed in response to a query on Twitter that the MIUI 13 release date hasn’t been set for this year as the focus is on MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition.
Does this mean that Xiaomi has changed its MIUI 13 release plans? Well, it’s hard to tell at this point.
A more plausible explanation is that Alvin is referring to the global release of MIUI 13 while Lei Jun was talking about the release of the update in China alone.
This assumption would make more sense if Xiaomi commits itself to releasing MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition for all global devices instead of just the flagships in China, since doing so will take months.
There hasn’t been any word from the OEM about a global release for all devices yet, but it wouldn’t make sense to limit an optimization-focused, bug-fixing update to flagship devices alone.
But if Xiaomi has indeed pushed back its release date for MIUI 13 to 2022, then we may perhaps see another announcement about a change of plan soon.
When that happens, we will be updating our dedicated MIUI 13 update tracker, so stay tuned.
