Original story (published on October 12, 2022) follows:

Wyze is a smart-home devices manufacturer that offers a wide range of products including security cameras, motion sensors, and much more.

The platform recently exhibited a flash sale where it offered the Segway ES2 kickscooter at an impressive price.

Wyze Segway ES2 Kickscooter sold out after checkout

A number of users recently received emails insinuating that Wyze is offering the Segway ES2 Kickscooter at a heavily discounted price.

The flash sale offered the Kickscooter for only $99 instead of the usual $650 which prompted a lot of users to add it to their cart.

However, immediately after adding the item to the cart for checkout, buyers got a message saying that it is ‘out of stock’.

Yep, same experience here. Logged in 2 minutes before and refreshed right at 12:00 (CST). First refresh didn’t bring up the sale, refreshed again and then it came up. Went through the checkout process and when I went to the payment screen, it was sold out. All of this under 1 minute from launch, see attached screenshot. Very disappointed.

The issue has infuriated many Wyze users as when they try to complete the checkout process, they receive ‘This item is no longer available’ message.

This has led many into believing that they have been scammed and some are even questioning the credibility of the sale.

Official acknowledgment

Fortunately, a Wyze team member has acknowledged the issue where the Segway ES2 Kickscooter shows ‘sold out’ after checkout and said that it has been escalated for further investigation.

Some users also suggested the platform to offer such flash sales with a better reservation system in future.

Even though the team has agreed that their approach wasn’t the right one. It’s still unclear if the team will consider implementing the suggested changes.

We’ll keep tabs on further developments and update the article when something noteworthy comes up.

Update 1 (Dec. 14, 2022)

05:59 pm (IST): Wyze recently organized a flash sale for the Segway ES2 scooters, but it seems that it was met with a similar fate. The items got sold out even before many could actually buy it.

Opened the app, got a message to go shop for this, clicked shop, and brought me back to the home page…

If it really did sell out so fast, I think Wyze needs to have a better idea of how to pass these opportunities out. Do a drawing, much like NewEgg Shuffle. If people don’t respond to this chance within 10 minutes, it goes to the next person.
