Original story (published on July 15, 2020) follows:
Vivo S1 was first unveiled back in July 2019 to take on the upper mid-range segment of the market. It is powered by the MT6768 Helio P65 and spots a 1080p AMOLED display, 4/6GB RAM, and ample storage options from 64GB onwards.
At launch, the device ran Android 9 Pie with Vivo’s Funtouch OS 9 out of the box. While the device has received a few security patches through its lifetime, Android 10-based Funtouch OS 10 has proved elusive.
Back in May, we saw reports that Vivo was planning to roll out Funtouch OS 10 to the Vivo S1 sometime between June and July. This was followed by an Open Beta recruitment in mid-June and finally, an Android 10 (Funtouch OS 10) beta on June 29.
We are already halfway through the month of July and still, there hasn’t been word on the status of Android 10 for the Vivo S1. Well, until now.
While responding to a user query on Twitter, Vivo India’s rep confirms that Android 10-based Funtouch OS 10 for the Vivo S1 has been released in ‘Greyscale testing’.
For the uninitiated, an update rolling out in greyscale is akin to a limited rollout. This means that while the update is ready, the company chooses to roll it out to a handful of users first to make sure there are no major bugs before the update can be rolled out to more devices.
Once officially rolled out to more Vivo S1 users, the device will join the ever-growing list of Vivo devices that have been updated to the company’s Android 10-based Funtouch OS 10. More in our Vivo Android 10 tracker here.
For now though, users of the Vivo S1 are advised to sit tight and look forward to this update hitting their devices pretty soon.
Update 1 (August 18)
It has now been over a month since we first reported that the Vivo S1 Android 10 update is under greyscale testing. Unfortunately, the stable update is yet to arrive on the device. Further, Vivo has not been able to provide users with an ETA for the release of the stable update. For more details, head here.
Update 2 (September 23)
A few users (1, 2, 3, 4) are reporting that the stable Android 10 update for the Vivo S1 has begun rolling out in India. The update is available over the air as version 6.12.2 with a download size of 3.37 GB. PS, Vivo has not yet confirmed the release officially.
