New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on May 05, 2020) follows:
Vivo ventured into the smartphone industry in India, with the iQOO brand. Well, you would expect any gaming smartphone to come with some fancy design elements alongside the top of the line and boosted specs.
The device stands correct about that “boosted specs” term. You get Snapdragon 865 chipset with 5G support, 6-12 GB of RAM, a great 4,400 mAh battery, offers up to 256 GB of onboard storage, spots a quad-camera setup with a 48 MP primary camera, and so on.
However, talking about the fancy design elements part, the device does not bring any RGB lighting, or cooling fans, but focusses more on the being anyone’s phone and not specifically for gamers.
And this has likely done the job, because as per a report by Strategy Analytics, Vivo was able to sell around 2.9 million units of its 5G phones in Q1 of 2020, which include iQOO 3 and X30 5G.
Vivo seems to not stop there are, riding high on the success of its iQOO brand, the company has recently announced via Twitter that iQOO 3 will be getting 2 years of Android OS updates and 3 years of regular security, and OTA updates.
Adding more clarity to it, Director of iQOO India, Gagan Arora has confirmed Android 11 and Android 12 updates for the iQOO 3 smartphone.
Here is what both the tweet reads:
Get the best of everything in a single package. Buy an #iQOO3, and get 2 major Android updates, along with regular security, and OTA updates for 3 years.

Enjoy “up to date” experience on your #iQOO3 for 3 years and also 2 Android Upgrades – Android 11 and 12.

Vivo is not known for timely updates and regular OTAs, and this decision of guaranteeing Android 11 and Android 12 updates for the iQOO 3 5G is a welcome step towards providing the best user experience to its users.
This is pretty practical of Vivo to announce two major OS updates and 3 years of security updates because if you look at the default update cycle of any OEM, all the devices are given this treatment.
And since the Vivo iQOO 3 5G comes with Android 10 out of the box and has put the Vivo brand back among the top-selling smartphone’s list, this might be Vivo iQOO’s way of sharing happiness with its users.
Update 1 (June 01)
07:10 pm (IST): IQOO has promised 3 years of software support and guaranteed Android 12 and Android 13 updates for IQOO 7, as per this tweet.
