New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 16, 2023) follows:

Verizon Wireless is one of the largest mobile network operators in the United States, providing cellular service to millions of subscribers.

Recently, some Verizon customers have been getting text messages that are offering a loyalty discount to them.

‘Exclusive Loyalty Discount’ messages troubling some Verizon users

Some Verizon subscribers have reported (1,2,3,4,5) receiving text messages from an unfamiliar number, 900070004309, offering an exclusive loyalty discount on their current unlimited plan.

Marketing or loyalty discount offer? Hi, ****** it’s Verizon. Because you’re a valued customer, we want to make sure you’re on the best plan, and determine if you’re eligible for a discount. To do this, simply call 800.922.0204 or *611 from your mobile device to speak to one of our qualified representatives. Thank you!
Would this mean I have the loyalty discount they can apply or is it simply a marketing attempt?

So, I get a text from @Verizon @VerizonSupport saying I get a $25 discount if I ‘call.’ When I call, the operator can’t find the offer and says she has to ‘escalate.’ I’m a middle school teacher, I have 6th graders that can do better.

The message directs customers to call 800.922.0204 to claim the discount, but some customers have been unable to get past the automated AI to claim the offer.

Reports of this issue have been popping up on social media, with many users expressing frustration at the inability to claim their loyalty discount.

Some have even expressed concern that the text message and phone number may be part of a scam.

The text was from 900070004309, and it stated if I called 800.922.0204 I would be able to claim a loyalty discount on my phone bill each month. I haven’t received a tdxt from this number before from Verizon, which is why I’m suspicious. Thanks!

However, it’s worth noting that Verizon loyalty discounts are a real thing, and they’ve also not suggested that the text messages are part of a scam.

For those who are having trouble claiming their loyalty discount, Verizon customer support has asked them to send a direct message on Twitter for assistance.

However, they also tweeted that at times users get directed to the MyVerizon app to claim the offer rather than claiming it over the phone.

At times the Loyalty Offers at times are only available via MyVerizon via Verizon Up (https://verizon.com/support/verizon-up-faqs/). Please follow and DM us, so we can check your account and assist your from this platform. Thanks so much.

It is not clear why some customers are unable to get past the automated AI to claim the offer. Verizon has not yet released an official statement addressing the issue.

It is important to note that loyalty discounts are not a new concept, and many mobile carriers offer these types of discounts to their long-term customers.

In fact, there are several threads on the Verizon subreddit discussing loyalty discounts, which suggests that this is a common practice for the company.

We hope that Verizon understands the confusion and chaos around the Loyalty Discount issue and provides a solution as soon as possible.
