New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 1, 2021) follows:

For many generations, OnePlus’ custom Android skin– OxygenOS– has gravitated close to stock Android. This means that features and design cues were heavily reliant on stock Android.

Although that has since slightly changed with the current Android 11-based OxygenOS 11, the design philosophy prevails for the most part.

It is, therefore, bizarre to find a feature that would otherwise work flawlessly on stock Android, not working as expected on OxygenOS.

Well, this is the case with OnePlus’ skin when it comes to fullscreen support for apps. According to users, OxygenOS fails to list all apps when trying to force fullscreen mode.

This means that apps that might not be well optimized for fullscreen are stuck with black bars at the top and bottom with no way to fix that on OxygenOS.

Affected users further point out that this is an OxygenOS/OnePlus issue as the same apps had been working well on other Android devices with no issues.

no apps in force fullscreen mode

Visiting OnePlus’ settings page and trying to force the malfunctioning apps to take advantage of fullscreen mode reveals the root of the problem as very few or no apps are listed in the section.

Affected users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) are, therefore, calling on OnePlus to fix this setting and allow them to enable fullscreen on any of their installed apps, a feature that’s reportedly present on many other Android skins.

After changing to OnePlus 8T, my display are not support fullscreen for apps. I did not have this problem in the other phone. The 1st picture the borders are cutoff in 8T. The 2nd picture is taken with my other phone. Apps are not automatically adjusting to full screen. Most apps are also not listed in “Apps to display in full screen” in settings. My other phone is not OnePlus. I never have this problem in my other phones.

This issue has been reported by users of various OnePlus devices running various versions of OxygenOS; from OnePlus 8T, OnePlus Nord, OnePlus 8, and even OnePlus 6.

Also worth noting is that this is a long-standing issue as there are reports from affected users dating as far back as early 2020.

Update 1 (January 27)

IST: 10:06 am: An Assistant Head Moderator on the OnePlus community forum has today, come out to explain why OnePlus devices have this issue. He goes on to advice affected users to keep giving this feedback so OnePlus can work on a fix for this.

OnePlus Full screen issue

This is an old problem, OnePlus has a configuration to put full screen, but most of the applications, I think that because of Google, they are not detected. Other manufacturers like Samsung solved it long ago.
The only option we have is for many users to report this issue, so the software team, at once, get to work on this.
