US Cellular & Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.1 update begins rolling out

Phone makers with a global presence have to bear in mind a few things when making a device. For instance, various markets have different needs or use different cellular technology and therefore, their devices need to cater to these particular needs.

That is part of the reason we have different variants of the same device, some which differ from each other fundamentally from the hardware and some with slightly different software experiences.

Case in point, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC in the U.S., Canada, China, Japan, and Latin America while most Note 9 units run on the Samsung Exynos 9810 SoC in the rest of the world.

This variation means that software updates also get rolled out at vastly different times. Already, we have seen the Galaxy Note 9 bag the One UI 2.1 update in Europe and Canada.

In the United States, Sprint and T-Mobile have already managed to roll out this much-awaited One UI 2.1 update to their respective Samsung Galaxy Note 9 variants. Today, even more Galaxy Note 9 devices are set to bag this update.

As I write this, users of both the Verizon Galaxy Note 9 and the U.S. Cellular version of the same have reported receiving updates to One UI 2.1. The updates are rolling out over the air (OTA) and bring the July 2020 patch.

The changelogs for these two updates are not very detailed but from the US Cellular update, we get an idea of what is coming to the device.

The Verizon update changelog only states that the update improves the system security and includes other enhancements. From screengrabs shared by users who have updated to this build, it is indeed One UI 2.1 for the Verizon Galaxy Note 9.

We can only hope that more and more phone makers strive to roll out updates to older devices in their catalogs. We shall also continue to keep an eye on this story and update when we get more info and download links.
