Google Assistant users on Nest and Home devices still can’t disable the annoying ‘by the way’ tips after years of putting in requests for this option.
According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple users have been facing an issue where they are unable to disable the annoying and frequent ‘by the way’ tips or suggestions.
If you own one of these, you should be familiar with Google Assistant constantly making suggestions about the same features over and over again. This happens when it finishes replying to queries.
For instance, it says something like ‘And by the way, if you ever want to know what time it is, just ask’ or ‘By the way, if you’d ever like to hear a summary of your day, just say, good morning’.
This has been an ongoing gripe with Assistant devices for years.
Hey Google, there is no difference in saying “by the way” or “side note” they’re both equally annoying when I already know the stupid thing you’re trying to randomly interject.

Some have tried to shut this feature down by communicating with Google Assistant and sending feedback to Google regarding the same but to no avail.
Others are surprised that Google hasn’t been able to add this function all this time, yet Amazon Alexa has a way to silence these annoying tips.
At least with Alexa you can set up a recurring routine telling her to “stop by the way.” I set this up, along with a routine beforehand to lower the volume on that device, and then raise it back afterwards, so I don’t have to hear the confirmation response either.

No official response
Unfortunately, Google has not officially responded to the matter. So users might have to wait more before they officially acknowledge it and resolve the bug.
We do hope that Google will fix the persistent problem soon.
Having said that, we’ll keep tabs on the issue where Google Nest users can’t disable annoying ‘by the way’ tips and update this article as and when something noteworthy comes up.
