Set in a cyberpunk world, ‘The Ascent’ is a shooter RPG game that lets players play solo or wreak havoc in co-op.
The game takes the players in a world where ‘The Ascent Group’, a giant organization that owns everything and everyone, including the player, has collapsed.
Developed by Neon Giant and published by Curve Digital, the game was released on July 29, 2021.
While most players seem to enjoy the game, The Ascent has hit some pretty serious roadblocks right after its release.
Users are reporting that they are losing all progress made in the game. However, the progress bug affects only if you play ‘The Ascent’ in co-op mode. However, solo players seem to do quite okay.
The bug deletes everything from stats, equipped armor, nades, augments, and even weapons you have purchased.
Playing on xbox game pass and I was encountering the bug where you couldnt quit to menu but the game would still show that progress was recently saved, so I used alt-f4 to end the sessions. This worked fine for a few times until just recently my entire save file was lost. No character in the main menu, checked the save file location on %appdata% but is completely missing.
So wondering if anyone has encountered this issue before, and if there is a save file past the intro and first few missions I could get from anyone? Dont really feel like starting a whole new game and doing the entire intro sequence, especially if this could happen again…

@AscentTheGame @NeonGiantGames Love the game so much! Eyes Hushed face #bugreport Going thru first co-op and my augmentations keep disappearing. My character will only carry a max of 4. If I acquire a new one, an old one will disappear. Super frustrating

After the outcry, Neon Giant, the game studio responsible for developing the game, has acknowledged the issue and said they are working on a fix.
To be honest, it is a pretty serious issue that should have been accounted for before the game was made available to the general public.
We hope the ‘The Ascent’ bug is fixed soon so players can complete the game without having to worry about losing their progress.
