Custom Android skins from various OEMs have always been a lot more feature-rich compared to stock Android. Unfortunately, this diversity has often led to a lot of feature disparity between various Android skins.

A feature that has been common-place for users of one Android skin for many generations could very well be missing in the latest version of another OEM skin.

Call recording, for instance. OEMs like Xiaomi have had native call recording on their stock Dialer app for many generations.

Of course, we’ve recently seen a move that now has new Xiaomi devices shipping with Google’s own Dialer app but even that is getting native call recording.

The OnePlus 8T was unveiled not too long ago. This device ran OxygenOS 11 out of the box and sadly, it misses out on call recording in many regions.

Luckily, and thanks to the developer community, users of the T-Mobile variant of the OnePlus 8T might have a way to get this feature enabled on their devices.

I successfully enabled call recording using jOnePlus Tools. No root required, no steps. Just hit the enable switch. Is this different somehow?

According to a user on the forum, the workaround to enable call recording on the T-Mobile variant of the OnePlus 8T is as simple as installing an app. According to some users, this seems to be working!

For users whose OnePlus 8T comes with the Google Dialer, the process is a little less straight-forward.

These users need to install the OnePlus dialer and make it a system app, a process that only works with root access. As such, the process involves;

– Gaining root access
– Downloading the required apk files
– Downloading the Busybox module on Magisk
– Downloading the App Systemizer module on Magisk
– Install a terminal app

It remains unclear why OnePlus chose to pre-install different dialer apps on OnePlus 8T units sold in the U.S. and globally.

Either way, we shall be at hand to update you when native call recording is made available to various OnePlus 8T units officially so stay tuned.
