T-Mobile OnePlus 8 OxygenOS 10.5.8 update brings Google Live Caption, support for additional 5G bands & April security patch

The OnePlus 8 lineup is the latest addition to the Chinese OEMs smartphone clan that was released not long back in April 2020. The non-carrier variants have already ben receiving the update and now T-Mobile has pushed its first update to OnePlus 8 units as OxygenOS 10.5.8.

The update coincides with the monthly security patch adding in the device’s new and enhanced features and is comparatively smaller in size than the ones pushed to the unlocked Indian/EU/North American OnePlus 8 variants. Being a monthly security patch, the system’s reliability is expected to improve, but there’s a lot more that this patch brings.

Not only does it come with the security updates, but it also provides support for additional 5G bands and addresses bugs in general. Speaking about the new additions, the update provides support for two 5G Sub-6GHz bands: n2 and n66, increasing the phone’s total 5G band support to five.

It also brings Google Live Caption along with general improvements to the devices’ performance. This particular feature automatically captions the media playing on your phone for e.g podcast, videos, audio messages, etc. This clearly is an advanced feature for improving the user experience.

Also, it comes with general improvements and fixes (which ones, isn’t clearly stated) for the existing issues on the device. The security patch bumps to April with the version 10.5.8.IN55CB. The update is measured at 306MB, and here’s what the changelog reds:

At this point, the update does not appear to be widely rolling out. The carrier hasn’t yet reflected the change on the devices’ software tracker page with specifics of the rollout. The download link is not yet available, so either wait for the OTA or go to Settings > System > System Update to check for updates.
