New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on October 23, 2021) follows:
Spotify is causing troubles for users trying to subscribe to its premium plans. The error has to do with the message ‘Address is not valid’ that appears while trying to add a new card for payments.
Reports from many users (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) point to a lot of annoyance around the bug in the Spotify system that does not allow them to add a new card. Due to this, a Spotify premium subscription cannot be purchased.
This also means that those who need to change the card registered in the system for another cannot do so.
Therefore, if the payment date is close and the registered card is no longer valid, those affected will not be able to renew Spotify premium.
Spotify and its ‘Address is not valid’ error
The current problem is that, while registering the billing address of the card, the Spotify system throws the message ‘Address is not valid’. This is very annoying since the same error always appears, even if the address is correct.
It should be noted that this error has ‘collateral damage’. The Spotify system is not allowing to claim gift cards, because it asks for an address. However, while placing the address, the error arises.
Users have found a workaround
While waiting for an official solution from Spotify, some users have found a ‘solutionworkaround’. Interestingly, the method is to put a slightly wrong address instead of the exact address.
Basically, the ‘solution’ consists of placing a different town, but close to that of the user. According to some users, this workaround worked for them. However, there is no guarantee that it will work equally well for everyone.
Spotify is already aware of the ‘Address is not valid’ error
The company officially ruled on this problem through its official forums. However, they still do not recognize the situation as a bug, but offer some possible solutions to the problem. The company’s suggestions are as follows:
Try with a similar address.
Try a different browser.
Try using an incognito window or a different internet connection.
Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, and make sure it is up to date.
Try with a different device.
The post ends by saying that, if you continue to experience problems after trying possible solutions, please send their feedback with screenshots (excluding personal information) to Spotify.
Something like this already happened recently
A similar situation with the same ‘invalid address error’ had already arisen a couple weeks ago.
Last time, moderators from Spotify forums revealed that the company had made certain changes to fix the problem. However, as can be seen, it has reappeared.
Update 1 (March 17, 2023)
05:39 pm (IST): Some users are again reporting (1, 2) the issue where they are getting ‘Address is not valid’ error when trying to sign up for the premium plan.
