Original story (published on September 15, 2020) follows:

Android 11 is out for Google Pixel devices while all major Android OEMs are also gearing up to release the latest OS update. However, there are a bunch of bugs that the Android 11 update brings along on the Pixel devices.

It was reported earlier that Chat Bubbles in Messages are not working while the Fling velocity fluidity issue also came to light. These and several more issues have already been reported to Google and users are now waiting for bug-fixes.

Now, it seems that another issue on the Google Pixel 2 units is spoiling the user experience after updating to Android 11. Multiple reports of random reboots after updating Google Pixel 2 units to Android 11 are coming up on online platforms like the Google support forums and Reddit.

Users are reporting that their Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL units are rebooting and going into boot loop. Some users have also stated that the issue occurs while watching videos on Google Chrome 85 in landscape mode.

Moreover, another report states that the Pixel 2 XL reboots while using Spotify with Bluetooth earbuds. While Google has not acknowledged the issue on a wider scale, support representatives have suggested users to try removing some third-party apps which appears to have solved the problem.

A user responded to a Google support representative stating that after getting rid of several third-party apps the random reboot issue on their Google Pixel 2 XL also vanished. However, the user has also pointed out that a particular app might be causing the issue.

It seems that the “Light Flow Legacy :Led Control” app is triggering the random reboot issue on Google Pixel 2 units after the Android 11 update. This might mean that any third-party app that can manipulate system settings or behavior can cause this issue.

While Google has not yet confirmed this phenomenon and workaround officially, it seems to be doing the trick for the affected users. So, if you are facing the random reboot issue on your Google Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL then you might want to ditch the likes of “Light Flow Legacy :Led Control”.

That said, we will provide updates once more information becomes available. Meanwhile, you can check out our Google Pixel Android 11 update tracker to stay updated on the topic. Also, we have a consolidated Android 11 update tracker for all major OEMs so be sure to go through it as well.

Update 1 (September 16)

IST 10:25 am: It seems that the random restarting issue is affecting other Pixel devices too. Users with the Google Pixel 4 series, Pixel 3a series, and the Pixel 3 series are also reporting that their device is randomly restarting. Google is yet to make a public statement.
