With a huge chuck on the workforce now working from home, Slack has quickly become one of the most important or at least one of the most used apps for many.

Of course, the app was popular pre-pandemic too but in 2020 it hit new user records for simultaneously connected users as highlighted by The Verge.

Slack is basically a glorified messaging application that makes it easier for teams to communicate and coordinate when working from home.

That said, it seems that some Slack users with iOS devices are claiming that there’s a bug in the app that prevents messages and channels from being marked as read or get stuck on unread even after viewing them.

We’ve shared some reports from users below for reference:

It seems like @SlackHQ unread notifications/status is not syncing between desktop and mobile. Things I have read on phone are showing as unread on desktop and vice versa. Killing me and my OCD πŸ™ (Source)

@slack, get your stuff together. I read that message at least 10 times, from top to bottom. Stop making it look like it’s unread and sending me back in the app so I can ‘clean my inbox’ (Source)

Is Slack on iOS having trouble marking messages as read for anyone else? (Source)

As mentioned in the reports by users with iOS devices, the messages and channels in Slack appear to be stuck on unread even after viewing them multiple times.

Needless to say, this has left many users frustrated. But luckily the company didn’t take long to address the problem.

Initially, Slack said the problem was not widespread. But after investigating, the team now says this is a high-priority bug that will be fixed soon. Although the bug-fix may arrive with the next update, which may take time.

Slack is even sharing all status updates regarding the bug that is preventing messages from being marked as read or are stuck on unread.

Unfortunately, it seems users will have to live with the issue for a bit longer until Slack rolls out a fix for it.

As usual, we’ll post an update if and when there are any new developments. So stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
