Aquos R was released back in 2017 by the Japanese manufacturer Sharp. At that time, it was a high-end device fueled by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. The phone sports a 5.3-inch WQHD display which is HDR 10 compatible. It compliments a 22.6MP rear & 16MP front facing camera.
The phone was available in only a single RAM+internal storage combination i.e. 4GB and 64GB. It came with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and packed in a 3,160mAh battery. Like Google Assistant and Siri, Aquos R had it’s own built-in AI assistant named Emop which activated with ‘Hello Emop’ phrase.
While Google is currently testing their newest Android OS Q, like smartphone users from other OEMs, Aquos R users have also been eyeing the arrival of last year’s Android 9.0 Pie. The wait is finally over as Android Pie (9.0) for Aquos R has finally been released by the company.
The information was shared a few hours back by a Sharp Aquos R user on Twitter. They also shared a screenshot of the update notification.
It’s worth mentioning that users of Aquos R compact, Sharp’s 2017 phone that was shipped with Android Oreo (unlike Aquos R which came with Nougat) also await Android Pie’s arrival. And user of the device have been routing to Twitter inquiring about the same.
