Several Google Photos users are facing issues while playing videos (or video play error) since last November. Specifically, uploaded videos either display “An error occurred. Please try again later” notification, or get into endless buffering.
The issue was unofficially claimed to be fixed on November 20, 2016 when a top contributor of Google Products said:
“We have reports saying the issue is fixed now”.
But, the fix (if there was any, at all) did not entertain all affected users, and there has been no update on this problem since then.
Users note that the issue occurred while using web interface, irrespective of the web browser used. For some, the video started playing and then went blank – not playing the video, but audio only. Suggested workarounds resolved the problem for some, but not all.
A quick look into the relevant thread of Google Photos forum and Android Central reveals that the video play bug of Google Photos still awaits a fix, despite the escalating number of reported use cases.
If you have been facing the same, we’ll keep you posted in case of any further development. Meanwhile, you can try hand on some of the suggested workarounds:
- Disable HTML5 auto play extension in Chrome
- Access Google Photos with your Web browser runing in incognito mode
