Samsung recently announced that it will be rolling out the One UI 3.1 skin based on Android 11 for a bunch of smartphones from its portfolio.

Earlier today, we reported that the One UI 3.1 update is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Note 20 series in Canada.

And that’s only a scratch on the surface since the update is also rolling out to some other devices such as the Galaxy S10 lineup and the Note 10 lineup.

Matter of fact, we’ve been tracking all developments regarding the availability of One UI 3.1. You can head here to find out all the details.

One UI 3.1 brings some of the new features found on the latest Galaxy S21 flagships to older models. And at the time of writing, there do not appear to be many bugs or issues with the update.

However, we’ve come across several reports from Samsung users who recently got the One UI 3.1 update claiming that they are no longer able to use the fast wireless charging feature on their devices with third-party chargers.

Today my Galaxy S20 FE updated to One UI 3.1 and since then, the 3rd partry QI charger can’t fast charge the phone. I receive a notification which says it’s incompatible, and only slow wireless charging is possible. (Source)

I’m having the same issue with my new Galaxy S20 FE 5G, but the problem showed up when I updated the phone to One UI 3.1, before that my third party fast wireless charger worked fine. (Source)

This issue has been ongoing since the update on the s20 as well and Samsung dont seem to acknolodge it. (Source)

It’s worth noting that the issue with fast wireless charging on Samsung phones isn’t entirely new. Towards the tail-end of 2020, a report highlighted some reports regarding issues with fast wireless charging.

However, at the time there was no indication that the issue might be related to third-party wireless chargers.

Now, as more fresh reports keep flooding social platforms and community forums, it seems that the problem is being experienced by those with third-party wireless chargers and on the latest S21 flagships too.

The company’s current fast wireless charging tech is labeled as “Fast Wireless Charging 2.0” and offers slightly better charging speeds than standard Qi wireless chargers, however, users report almost half the usual charging speed they got before the update.

Keep in mind, all users claim that they’re using the same wireless charger as before. Hence, it’s unlikely that this is due to faulty hardware.

The company has not made any official statement regarding the issue yet. Therefore, it’s hard to tell whether a bug is causing these problems or whether it’s an intentional change by Samsung.

As usual, we will keep track of the situation and will post an update once there are any new developments regarding the fast wireless charging issue with Samsung phones on One UI 3.1.

But in the meantime, feel free to drop a comment and let us know whether or not you’ve been facing the same issue. Moreover, if you believe we’ve missed out on something, let us know.

I've been interested in tech for as long as I can remember. And I used to be a Windows Phone enthusiast. When I am not writing about tech, I'm on the couch playing games with my squad. Oh, I also play the guitar and drums.
