[Released] Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series One UI 3.0 (Android 11) update will allegedly add Second Screen/dual monitor support

Over the years, it has become clear that Android tablets need a lot of catching up to do in order to even be compared to iPads.

Most OEMs have completely ditched the idea of selling Android tabs. Only a few brave vendors such as Samsung and Huawei are still not willing to bow down to Apple.

While high-end Samsung tabs have always offered excellent hardware, the software experience on these Android tabs has always been a weakness.

Moreover, Google has failed to do much about the user experience on tabs. Similarly, app developers are also unwilling to put in the effort to optimize their apps for Android tablets.

Hence, a combination of both flaws has left iPads as the undisputed champions when it comes to tablets in just about every price segment.

To keep it that way, Apple also introduced a separate operating platform for iPads — dubbed iPadOS — to offer users a better user experience along with additional features.

Sidecar is one such feature that helps users boost their productivity by allowing them to use their iPads as secondary displays with their Macs.

Taking a page out of Apple’s book, Samsung also mentioned that a similar feature called ‘Second Screen’ will be available for the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ in its press release.

A few months ago, a report suggested that Samsung is testing the feature internally for the company’s flagship tabs.

And well, it seems that Second Screen will indeed be coming to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series through the One UI 3.0 update that’s based on Android 11.

Samsung support has allegedly confirmed this information in response to a user’s query regarding the availability of the feature. We’ve shared a translated version of the original screenshot (in Korean) below:

In the footnotes of its press release, Samsung claimed that the feature will be available by the end of the year.

However, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ are scheduled to bag the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update in February next year and thus users may have to wait longer to get the Second Screen feature.

Nevertheless, it’s good to see Samsung putting in the effort to make their Android tablets compete against iPads instead of releasing new hardware just for the sake of it.

04:35 pm (IST): Samsung began rolling out the One UI 3.1 update based on Android 11 for the Galaxy Tab S7 series in Korea a week ago. Now, it’s confirmed that the update does indeed bring the Second Screen support along with a few other features.
