New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 29, 2020) follows:

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 was launched back in 2017 and has since received a lot of love from the company. The device came with Android 7.1.1 out of the box and has since received its two major Android updates, leaving it at Android 9 Pie.

However, since it is still within its 3 years of assured regular security updates, the device continues to get updated regularly and most recently, the device has bagged the July 2020 security update.

Reports coming in indicate that this July patch is wreaking havoc to Galaxy Note 8 devices. Countless reports on social media and on Samsung’s community forums are pointing out a bug that is causing the Galaxy Note 8 to lose network and fail to register SIM Cards with a No IMEI error.

The reports (1,2,3,4,5) say the update breaks the network making users unable to make calls or use the internet through the mobile networks. The affected users however report that Wi-Fi seems to works fine.

Similar reports say that users are getting ‘No SIM card- Emergency calls only‘ on lock screen, while under the Settings > Connections, the ‘SIM Card Manager’ option is not working.

The majority of affected users say they’re facing a SIM card read error, No IMEI Number and as a result of these, they cannot login to Samsung services. The SIM manager on these devices also remains frozen and some have tried the basic troubleshooting; resetting network settings and even Factory resetting their devices, all in vain.

At the time of writing, Samsung had not issued a statement regarding this No Network issue that is affecting Galaxy Note 8 users but seeing just how widespread the problem is, it is only a matter of time before it is formally addressed.

This is a developing story and as such, we shall continue to keep an eye on the development and keep you updated on possible workarounds if any is available or possible fixes so stay tuned.
