[Updated] Samsung Galaxy Buds & Galaxy Watch Active get new updates

Samsung Galaxy Buds were unveiled alongside the Galaxy S10 series in early 2019. The company even went ahead and wowed early adopters of the S10 series with a free pair of Galaxy Buds, but little did we know it was the first step towards killing the popular headphone jack.

Sure, the troubled Samsung Galaxy Fold did drop the 3.5mm audio jack, becoming the first Samsung smartphone to do so. But the insignificant footprint expected from the Fold due to being a first-gen device was never a concern for many.

With the launch of the Galaxy Note 10, though, Samsung has all but ditched the 3.5mm audio jack on its flagship phones. Going forward, Samsung’s high-end phones will no longer ship with an audio jack and instead, Samsung wants you to buy a wireless pair of Galaxy Buds.

Samsung is bundling a pair of free Galaxy Buds with every purchase of a new Galaxy flagship phone, but for how long will this go on? For now, the company is only doing it to get you acclimatized to using wireless earbuds in place of the wired headphones.

For those who got a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds either as part of the Galaxy S10 deal or bought them separately, a new software update is available for download right now.

The update is arriving as version R170XXU0ASH2 and weighing in at 1.37MB, and claims to improve the Bluetooth performance of your Samsung Galaxy Buds. The connection between the Buds and your smartphone will now be more stable after this update.

The provided changelog doesn’t say much more than “stabilized” Bluetooth connection, so you might also want to go with what the company actually says. If your Buds have been experiencing connectivity issues, you can check into the Galaxy Wearable app on your smartphone and install the update right away.

For now, this update seems to be available in the U.S. and Europe, but more regions should receive it soon. While some users seem to be having poor audio quality after updating their Buds, resetting them after the update should help fix this and any other annoying issues.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active update

Also receiving a new software update is the Galaxy Watch Active. Unveiled earlier this year, the Watch Active is the newest smartwatch the company has on the market and it’s only worth it that it takes great care of it through regular software updates.

The incoming update installs software version R500XXU1CHS3 and weighs in at 75.56MB, which is pretty heavy for such a device. For its size, the update brings quite a lot to the Watch Active.

Bixby now ensures that performing tasks is much easier and more hands-free, Samsung Health has also been updated, while the App Tray UI has been improved for an easier and more intuitive experience. A dedicated Goodnight mode has also been included in the new update.

Be sure to grab these updates on your Samsung Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Watch Active right away because they are available for download, although not in all markets they are sold. Software updates may take a few days before all units can download it, so be patient.
