New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on Sept 30, 2020) follows:

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 users have been waiting for the MIUI 12 and Android 10 update for quite some time now.

It was reported back in July that the Redmi Note 8 Android 10-based MIUI 12 update might release in a couple of weeks.

While it took more than just a couple of weeks for Xiaomi to provide the much awaited update, the Redmi Note 8 is finally getting MIUI 12 along with Android 10.

The update is live over the air and users of the Redmi Note 8 can now grab it. Also, those who want to install it manually can download the ROM from the link given below.

Moreover, you can go through these workarounds in case you come across any errors while installing the update manually.

  • Device: Xiaomi Redmi Note 8
  • Codename: ginkgo
  • Channel: China Stable
  • Version: V12.0.2.0.QCOCNXM
  • Android: 10
    • Type: Recovery

However, this is Chinese ROM which does not include any Google apps and services, hence, it must be flashed on the Chinese Redmi Note 8 variant only.

It has been more than five months since Xiaomi announced the MIUI 12 update in China and a lot of devices have already received the latest custom skin.

The Redmi Note 8 was among those few devices that are yet to bag the MIUI 12 update but with this update the wait has finally come to an end.

It must be noted that the Android 10 update for the Redmi Note 8 has been under testing since March, however, users were more inclined towards MIUI 12.

This is simply due to the fact that the latest custom skin has a lot to offer in terms of the overall user experience.

Xiaomi has taken its own time to release the OS and custom skin update for the Redmi Note 8 and we hope that the quality of the update satisfies users.

While the Redmi Note series devices currently get just one OS update, we think that the OEM should provide at least two major updates to these devices. You can also let us know what you think on the matter by going through this story.

That said, you can check out our MIUI 12 update tracker if your Xiaomi device is yet to bag the latest custom skin.

Furthermore, Xiaomi is also actively working on the latest OS update so be sure to go through our Xiaomi Android 11 update tracker to stay updated on the topic.

Update 1 (October 01)

The official announcement post confirming the release of MIUI 12 (Android 10-based) for select Redmi Note 8 devices in China is now up.
