This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..

Original story (from September 17) follows:

MIUI 12 has been out for a couple of months now and Xiaomi has made really remarkable strides towards making this new custom skin available to many eligible devices.

At the time of writing, the company has already completed rollout to devices in the second batch and attention is now shifting to devices listed in the third batch.

Redmi Note 8

The Redmi Note 8 was unveiled back in August 2019 and it ran Android 9.0 out of the box with the company’s MIUI 11 on top of it. The device still runs on the same software version, despite being in line for an update to MIUI 12.

Already, MIUI 12 has been rolled out to the Redmi Note 8 in China, albeit as a Beta build. But that was way back in July. Since then, we haven’t received any meaningful communication from the company.

We dig deeper into the current state of MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 8 in this post.

Even as the wait continues, users of the Redmi Note 8 haven’t been left to their own devices, (pun intended) as Xiaomi has been pretty steadfast with rolling updates to their devices, just not the ones they’re eagerly waiting for.

Users of the Redmi Note 8 in India are getting an update on their devices. This update with build number V11.0.6.0.PCOINXM is still based on MIUI 11 and brings with it the August 2020 security patch to the Redmi Note 8.

Changelog:

System

Updated Android Security Patch to August 2020. Increased system security.

Not exactly the much-awaited MIUI 12 but an update nonetheless. From the changelog above, this update doesn’t bring anything other than a newer security patch to the Redmi Note 8.

For users on the latest firmware V11.0.5.0.PCOINXM, this OTA weighs in at a pretty small 253MB.

As is the case with updates from Xiaomi, this too should be rolling out to eligible devices as an OTA over the next few days and weeks. Users are therefore advised to sit tight and look forward to this update.
