Redmi Note 8 Android 10 update available as Pixel Experience & Pixel Experience Plus edition custom ROM (Download link inside)

Custom ROMs offer a rather interesting value proposition. For many popular devices, your purchase might as well only be dictated by the price, and the specifications of the device as you can change everything, software-wise, with custom ROMs.

Xiaomi devices are better known for this feature seeing as MIUI is a rather heavy skin on top of Android and it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Of course there are other inherent benefits of going for custom ROMs and we shall explore those soon.

The Redmi Note 8 is a solid device even today. Launched back in October 2019, the device debuted running Android 9 Pie, skinned with Xiaomi’s MIUI 11. 9 months into the device’s life cycle and the device still runs Android 9 Pie that it launched with.

Xiaomi plans to roll out Android 10 to this device sometime in July 2020 according to previous reports. However, for users who might not want to wait for Xiaomi to oblige before they can enjoy the benefits of Android 10, there is a way to go about it.

Thanks to the team over at Pixel Experience, an aftermarket Android firmware that is based on the version of Android that comes with Google’s own Pixel devices, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 users can now have a feel of what it is like to have a Google Pixel device running Android 10.

Pixel Experience is available for the Redmi Note 8 in two flavors, the Pixel Experience, and the Pixel Experience Plus. The difference between these two is subtle but the Plus variant comes with a few more customization options over the ‘Stock’ Pixel Experience.

The download page for these two ROMs indicate that these two builds are in Beta so that is something to bear in mind before you dip your toes into this ROM.

This ROM will, no doubt, come as a pleasant surprise to all the Redmi Note 8 users who are eagerly awaiting the stable release of Android 10 from Xiaomi. Earlier reports indicated that this update would come with MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 8.
