The Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro are both excellent value for money smartphones. Of course, this isn’t surprising since the same can be said for most phones from Xiaomi.
But this time around there is evidence to back up the claim since both devices were part of the top five most shipped smartphones in the first half of 2020 as we reported here.
That is no small feat considering that we’re used to seeing iPhones and Samsung devices at the top of such lists. It shows that Xiaomi is doing a good job of roping in new customers.
Being Xiaomi phones, the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro launched with some of the best specifications for their respective prices.
However, no matter how well-specced a smartphone is or how many software updates it gets, it does not guarantee that the user will not run into any issues or bugs.
Matter of fact, we recently reported that Redmi Note 8 Pro users are facing excessive battery drain after installing the MIUI 12 update.
Likewise, Redmi Note 8 users were reporting that they were noticing slow Wi-Fi speeds on the device, albeit on Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 skin.
And now, users are reporting that they are facing issues with the auto brightness function on the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 8 Pro.
According to multiple reports, the auto brightness has stopped working. We’ve added screenshots of a few complaints from Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro users below:
One user claims that the setting is always set to zero and thus they are forced to change the brightness manually.
Needless to say, this may be a major issue for those who constantly find themselves in different lighting situations.
Fortunately, it seems that users may not have to deal with the problem for too long.
This is because a Mi Community mod has responded to a user’s complaint by stating that the issue has been reported to the developers and a fix should be released via the next update.
Wait for the next update.reported to developers..in next update it will be fixed.
If this information is accurate, the fix for the auto brightness issue should be out within a few days or a couple of weeks. But we will have to wait and see how long it actually takes.
It’s possible that the fix may arrive via the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8, however, we wouldn’t bet on it.
Speaking of which, many Redmi Note 8 users are disappointed since Xiaomi is yet to release the stable MIUI 12 update for the device outside of China.
It’s expected that the company may roll out its latest skin for the phone in other regions by the end of October. Therefore, we have a few more days to see whether that becomes a reality or not.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro on the other hand has received the stable MIUI 12 update in all regions the device is sold in.
Unfortunately, neither of the two smartphones will be getting the latest Android version, i.e. Android 11, even though may users are still keeping their hopes high.
That said, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update once Xiaomi rolls out a fix for the auto brightness issue on the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro.
In the meantime, stay tuned to our dedicated tracker to know when the stable MIUI 12 update arrives for your Redmi Note 8.
