Xiaomi is not done rolling out MIUI 11-based updates to the Redmi Note 6 Pro as evidenced by the latest developments on the global variant of the handset.

The Note 6 Pro has been around for a while and is among the few Redmi devices that never got to be launched/sold in China. The device is available on the global and Russian ROMs, but the incoming update is rolling out to the former unit.

If you own the global Redmi Note 6 Pro, the new update is arriving as MIUI 11.0.5.0.PEKMIXM and is still based on Android Pie. ICYMI, there won’t be an update to Android 10 for this device. It came pre-installed with Oreo and thus Pie was the one and only guaranteed OS update.

Android OS updates aside, the next big thing for owners of the Redmi Note 6 Pro is MIUI 12 update. Unfortunately, the release of a new MIUI 11-based firmware means the wait for the new MIUI 12 skin to start rolling out is still on.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro is supposed to receive MIUI 12 as part of the second batch, which started in late July/early August. But of course, the likes of Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 8 Pro and the latest Redmi Note 9 Pro were always going to get the nod ahead of their aging counterpart.

Granted, owners of the Note 6 Pro will have to keep on waiting for the official release of the software, probably sometime this month or in September, which is when Xiaomi is expected to wind up the MIUI 12 update rollout for all eligible devices.

Alternatively, you can always try the unofficial MIUI 12 version, but do so at your own risk. This version is meant for the Redmi Note 7 so expect to bump into a few errors here and there.
