The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro may have been launched fairly recently but still came with MIUI 12 out of the box. Xiaomi says that they ship the device with a version of the software available during the time of the production.
And ever since its release, users have been waiting eagerly for news about the MIUI 12.5 update. Unfortunately, the device was launched at a time when the official update timeline was already released.
This meant that there was no sign of the Redmi Note 10 Pro on the list and that its users were left in the dark with regards to the ETA or any other information about the MIUI 12.5 update.
Moreover, there is still no sign of any MIUI 12.5 beta builds for the Redmi Note 10 series, even as almost every other eligible device has been included in the testing program.
This could only mean one thing – the MIUI 12.5 stable update for the Redmi Note 10 series is so close that Xiaomi did not bother with its inclusion into the beta program.
It could be possible that the MIUI 12.5 beta testing for the series is being carried out internally.
However, when we take the likes of the Redmi K40 series that too was released around the same time as the Redmi Note 10 series yet receives regular MIUI 12.5 beta builds, the theory sort of breaks down.
Still, there is one undeniable evidence that proves that the MIUI 12.5 update for the Redmi Note 10 Pro isn’t too far off.
The Redmi Note 10S recently bagged a MIUI 12.5 global stable update which means that the rest of the series should be treated to it soon too.
But without any official information, all of the above still remains highly speculative.
What isn’t speculative though is the fact that Redmi Note 10 Pro and Note 10 Pro Max users can still try out the MIUI 12.5 update prior to its official release.
Thanks to the Redmi Note 10 Pro developer community, the MIUI 12.5 beta 21.4.28 update can now be installed on the Redmi Note 10 Pro as a custom ROM.
The ROM is a port which means that it hasn’t been compiled from the source or anything. Rather, it has been adapted from another device – the Mi 10 Lite. This has been indicated in the ROM’s release notes:
• Ported from Mi 10 Lite (monet)
• Ported slightly older version as it’s more stable
• Fixed updater-script codenames, now flashable directly on both sweet & sweetin
• Fixed issue stuck on boot animation, needs force reboot for first boot
• Fixed Notch & Status Bar padding
• Fixed Screen Flickering at 120 Hz
• Other miscellaneous fixes & improvements
- Device: Redmi Note 10 Pro/Pro Max
- Codename: sweetin/sweet
- Channel: MIUI 12.5 China beta port
- Version: 21.4.28
- Android: 11
- Type: Recovery
- Download: Link
Do keep in mind that since the build is a custom ROM, it requires an unlocked bootloader. For instructions on how to unlock the bootloader, head here. Once that’s done, just follow the instructions given below and you will be good to go!
[Installation instructions]
• If your device is encrypted then do Format Data otherwise just wipe Dalvik Cache, Cache & Data
• Flash ROM
• Flash Disable DM-Verity & Forced Encryption zip
• Flash Permissiver zip
• Reboot to recovery & flash latest Magisk
• Reboot. Done.
Beta port builds aren’t everyone’s cup of tea though because there may be a few bugs hither and thither. Therefore, a safer alternative will be the bloatware-free and ad-free Xiaomi.eu custom ROM based on the latest MIUI 12 global stable.
