The Redmi 9T is just another one of those devices that goes by different names depending on the region it is being sold in. In China, Xiaomi has decided to inject the phone into the Redmi Note series and has called it the Redmi Note 9 4G.

But in the rest of the world, the device is either called the Redmi 9T or the Redmi 9 Power. This effectively gives the device a total of three unique names.

Anyway, being a recent release, the Redmi 9T was always eligible for the Android 11 update along with MIUI 12.5. It booted into Android 10-based MIUI 12 when it launched earlier this year.

While there is still no sign of MIUI 12.5, the Chinese variant of the Redmi 9T did indeed bag an Android 11-based MIUI 12 update back in early July. This was followed by releases in other regions like Turkey and Indonesia.

However, it is now late August and there is still no trace of any Android 11 for the Russian and European variants of the Redmi 9T.

Typically, Xiaomi releases updates in a domino-like manner for any device. This means that after any major update hits a particular region, it quickly rolls out to the rest of the regions.

But this hasn’t been the case for the Redmi 9T and users are perplexed.

Thankfully, a Mi Community moderator has now given an insight on the matter saying that the update will be released soon. There is no ETA though.

Turns out that the hold-up is actually due to a screen flickering/blinking issue that occurs when videos are played on Android 11. Builds affected by the problem are 12.0.1.0.RJQMIXM, 12.0.1.0.RJQIDXM, 12.0.1.0.RJQTRXM, and 12.0.1.0.RJQTWXM.

Due to this, Xiaomi has stopped pushing Android 11 to the remaining regions and is waiting for Qualcomm to provide a patch.

It is unclear if the promised patched-up Android 11 update will still be layered atop with MIUI 12 or if it finally will bring along MIUI 12.5.

But judging from the fact that it is high time for MIUI 12.5 to hit the Redmi 9T, we sure hope that it will be the latter. For now, stay tuned to our dedicated Xiaomi Android 11 and MIUI 12.5 update trackers.
