The way Xiaomi handles its updates is a little different from how other OEMs do it. The company has decoupled its skin, MIUI, from Android versions meaning that many features come with new versions of MIUI while new versions of Android are delivered with little system changes.

That explains why the Xiaomi community is clamoring over the new version of MIUI, MIUI 12. Already, a good number of eligible devices have bagged this update and you can check out our dedicated tracker for more on the state of MIUI 12 rollout.

Launched back in June this year, the Xiaomi Redmi 9 came with Android 10 out of the box with the company’s MIUI 11 on top. The device is in line for an update to MIUI 12 and not too long ago, we saw the Chinese variant of the same bag this much-anticipated update.

Fast forward to the present day and Xiaomi is rolling out yet another update to the Redmi 9 in China. Confusingly, this update is based on MIUI 11 that the device launched with.

At the time of writing, it is unclear whether the MIUI 12 was rolled back or this update is meant for users of the Redmi 9 who had not updated their devices to MIUI 12. Either way, users of the Redmi 9 in China looking to update their devices will get this new build as the available update.

This new build bears software version number V11.0.5.0.QJCCNXM. So what’s new in this build? Well. the changelog for this update to the Redmi 9 is as follows.

This build, like many other updates from Xiaomi, should go out to Redmi 9 users as an OTA and as such, users should wait for the notification to come to their devices.

IST: 12:15 pm: Xiaomi is now rolling out the re-released version of the MIUI 12 beta stable update for the Redmi 9 in the Chinese market. While this update is currently meant for a limited number of users, a wider rollout is expected to begin soon. See the full details here.
