New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on July 22, 2020) follows:
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 which first made an appearance in the global market was unveiled in China as the Redmi 10X 4G. The company often releases its smartphones with different names in different regions for some odd reason.
Both variants released with Android 10 out-of-the-box with the MIUI 11 coating on top. Xiaomi then announced the release of its new MIUI 12 skin in China. And it was but obvious that the Redmi Note 9/Redmi 10X 4G would be getting it.
Back in June, we had reported that the stable MIUI 12 update for the Redmi 10X 4G began rolling out to users. This new software version based on Android 10 was rolling out to units in China.
However, it appears that the update was rolled back for some unknown reason. This is because the stable MIUI 12 update has been re-released and is installing over MIUI 11 on the Redmi 10X 4G. It comes as version V12.0.3.0.QJOCNXM which is bumped up from V11.0.6.0.QJOCNXM.
The OTA package’s download size is 646MB and should be arriving on your device soon if it hasn’t already. Of course, there is a boatload of new features and improvements over the previous MIUI 11 version.

Unfortunately, there’s still no ETA on when we can expect the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 9 to arrive for global and European units. However, MIUI 12 could roll out for the Redmi Note 9 sold in Indonesia in August. More on that here.
Since the Redmi 10X 4G has received the stable MIUI 12 update in China, it shouldn’t be long before the global Redmi Note 9 receives it.
Further, the Redmi Note 9 is yet to be sold in India. The first sale of the device is on July 24 in the country. Thus, users in India shouldn’t have to wait a long time for the device to bag the MIUI 12 skin.
Xiaomi is yet to release its latest skin to other eligible devices as well. You can take a look at our MIUI 12 update tracker to know when it arrives on your phone. Further, the company has also begun testing MIUI 12.1 in China.
Update 1 (July 31)
Xiaomi has once again re-released the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi 10X 4G in China. The version is V12.0.4.0.QJOCNXM which has been bumped up from V11.0.6.0.QJOCNXM. The changelog for the update has been slightly tweaked and it also includes the July security patch.
