Realme says Realme 2 Pro Realme UI is "not very compatible" with Google camera (Gcam), but there's a workaround

The Realme 2 Pro released back in 2018 and came with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed. The device has since then received the update to Android 9 and then to Android 10 alongside Realme UI. It comes with a decent set of specifications including the Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with up to 8GB RAM.

On the camera front, the Realme 2 Pro comes with a 16 MP primary camera along with a 2 MP depth sensor. For selfies, it has a 16 MP camera housed in the dew-drop notch. For its price, the camera setup on the device is pretty capable and Realme’s camera app is quite straightforward to use.

However, when it comes to the best camera experience, it’s hard to find anything better than Google’s Pixel lineup. The software giant’s advanced machine learning techniques have proved to be extremely useful in the development of its camera application.

Keeping this in mind, we had shared a list of Gcam 7.0 mods for many Realme devices. The Gcam mod often improves the quality of images taken on almost every supported phone drastically. Thus, many enthusiasts tend to use the Gcam camera application over the stock app.

But in a recent FAQ section posted along with the August update for the Realme 2 Pro, Realme claims that the “Google camera is not very compatible with realme UI.” This answer was given in response to the question — “Why is my Google camera(GCAM) not working after upgrading?”

Luckily, Realme has also shared a workaround in case users are unable to use the Gcam mod on their Realme 2 Pro. We’ve added the workaround along with the download link for the Gcam mod that Realme recommends:

If you want to use Google Camera, please upgrade to latest version first;
And operate on following path: settings —- “”developer options —-“” camera HAL3, and then restart the phone

Once you download the app, make sure to follow the instructions provided by Realme. Once you restart your phone, you should be able to use the Gcam application on the Realme 2 Pro as usual.
