New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on July 2, 2020) follows:
While there are OEMs like Samsung, OnePlus, and Google, which promise two or more than two major OS updates for their phones, there are manufacturers like Realme which settle for one major OS update for some of their devices. Take Realme 1 and U1 for example.
Both phones came with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and have received their only OS update in the form of Android 9 Pie. Besides, the company has officially confirmed that they have no plans of bringing Realme UI (Android 10) updates to Realme 1 and Realme U1.
This piece of information was confirmed by Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth in a recent AskMadhav Youtube episode where he explained:
Realme UI is developed and based on Android 10 Only. So devices like realme 1, 2 U1 and C1 can’t be updated to Realme UI. And developing Realme UI on Android 9 is not in the plans.

However, what might come as a piece of good news for all Realme 1 and U1 fans is that Realme support has confirmed working on Android 9 Pie-based kernel source code for the duo and is expected to be out soon.
Here is what Realme support stated after getting several queries related to the release of Android 9 Pie kernel source code for Realme 1 and U1:
We had got our customers voice about realme 1 and U1 (Android P) kernel code open. Our guys are doing this work, pls hold on a moment. We will release i asap. maybe about after 3-4 weeks.
So, it is now confirmed that Realme 1 and U1 Android 9 Pie-based kernel source code is under development and after 3-4 weeks it will be live.
All we can do now is wait for some time and hope that this piece of information turns out to be true. This will benefit third-party developers to develop custom ROMs for Realme 1 and Realme U1.
We will keep you posted if anything new related to this comes across our table.
Thanks for sharing the info, Vedant Shirsekar!
