New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 4, 2020) follows:

The launch of the Razer Phone in late 2017 was seen as a game-changer for mobile gamers. Touted as the world’s first true gaming phone, the Razer Phone was also popularized by the impressive 120Hz display screen that easily turns on any hardcore gamer.

This feature made it to the Razer Phone 2 a year later, but to date, there are still no signs of the Razer Phone 3. Matter of fact, we may never get to see such a handset after Razer laid off some members of its smartphone workforce in early 2019.

While at it, the company also affirmed its position to continue supporting the Razer Phone 2 with the latest software updates and features. A few months later, Android Pie was released as the first of two OS upgrades the device is expected to receive.

Fast-forward to today, Razer seems to be struggling with keeping its promise of providing the latest features to the Razer Phone 2. Sure, security patches don’t seem to be a problem as the device recently got May 2020 patch on AT&T.

But the fact that the Razer Phone got two OS updates (from Nougat to the current Pie) has left owners of its successor furious about not just the lack of Android 10 update for the Razer Phone 2, but also the lack of communication from Razer.

Razer support on Twitter, for instance, hasn’t responded to any question related to the Razer Phone 2 Android 10 update status for a period dating back to 2019.

In March 2020, we reported about the uncertainty surrounding the release of the Razer Phone 2 Android 10 update. At the time, Razer support said nothing had been finalized regarding if the device will get the OS, leave alone when.

To date, nothing concrete has come from the Razer camp, leaving device owners contemplating alternative ways of getting the Razer Phone 2 Android 10 update. Others are also looking at other phones that get regular updates as an option.

I’m looking at the Pixel 4A as my next possible phone. Miss updates and being on top of Android releases. I will miss the screen and stereo audio.

Up to this point, no one knows if the Razer Phone 2 will get its second OS upgrade. The fact that Razer isn’t saying anything about it isn’t helping either. Hopefully, the silence will be broken at some point, but until then, don’t get your hopes too high.

Update 1 (July 13)

It doesn’t look good for Razer Phone 2 Android 10 hopefuls, at least if the latest screenshot of an alleged conversation between a device owner and company support. Apparently, there is no information regarding if and when the update will be released.

The fact that the above info supposedly comes from a source who has little knowledge about what is going on in the software department should give Razer Phone 2 some hope. But then again, this info shouldn’t be hard to come by for support guys, so we may have to wait and see what comes out next.

Update 2 (September 10)

IST 10:47 am: Unfortunately, the Android 10 update for the Razer Phone 2 is still not in sight since the device has just picked up the September security update based on Android 9 Pie. Here’s a screenshot shared by a user on Reddit of the new software update.
