PUBG & Call of Duty (COD) players on Android 11 beta update experiencing issues

PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile are both one of the most popular games on Android and iOS at the moment. Both games offer a Battle Royale experience as well as other multiplayer modes. Thus, players can pick and choose between the different modes to play in either of the two titles.

Further, certain PUBG Mobile players will now be able to play the game at 90fps. At present, only a few OnePlus phones support 90fps in PUBG Mobile. However, many other phones with 90Hz and above refresh rate displays will also gain support for the high-refresh-rate gameplay option.

Up until now, both games offered support for a maximum of 60 frames per second. That being said, it appears that certain Android users are having trouble while trying to play PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile on their devices. In particular, players with devices running on Android 11 are unable to play either of the two titles.

Since the stable Android 11 update is yet to roll out for any Android smartphone, there aren’t many users who have reported about the issue. However, those who’ve installed the Android 11 beta on their devices are beginning to report that they aren’t able to play PUBG Mobile or COD Mobile.

For some users, the game gets stuck at the loading screen while others are reporting that they aren’t able to download in-game resources, amongst other problems. We’ve added a few screenshots of user reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) on the issue below:

While the problem might be due to an unknown bug, a user did point out that the it might be arising due to how Android 11 allows apps to use the device storage. Google’s new ‘Scoped Storage‘ API in Android 11 might be causing the issues that users are now reporting about.

Unfortunately, if this is the case players will have to wait until the developers update PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile to support the new changes in Android 11. Thus, if you were looking to try out the Android 11 beta on your device, we’d suggest waiting if you want to continue playing either of the two games.

And in case you’ve already installed the beta and want to continue playing PUBG Mobile or COD Mobile, you may have to roll back to Android 10 from Android 11. As usual, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update when more details surface surrounding the issue.
