MIUI 12 PSA for Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro users: Those who aren’t part of Mi Pilot test warned not to install update

Xiaomi’s new skin on top of Android, MIUI 12 is the hottest thing in the Xiaomi Community right now. While some devices have officially been updated to the new build of MIUI, many haven’t received the much-anticipated update yet but active development and testing is on-going. Yesterday, we saw Xiaomi roll out the Stable Beta of MIUI 12 for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro. The update was meant to go out only to users who had successfully applied for a slot on the company’s Mi Pilot program.

Well, since the update was labeled ‘Stable’ and the update firmware was readily available for download and manual installing, as expected, many users who were very eager to get an early look at MIUI 12 on their Redmi Note 8 Pro units rushed to download and install this firmware. This, despite not being part of the Pilot program.

Today, Xiaomi through a Public Service Announcement posted on its Arab handle on Mi Community Forum, issues a stern warning to users who might want to install this Beta update on their Redmi Note 8 Pro units.

“Distinguished members of the Mi Community, the Arab world, the owners of the Redmi Note 8 Pro phone, please do not attempt to install the MIUI 12 Stable Beta beta as long as you are not affiliated with the Mi Pilots laboratory team.

You might search online and find unofficial ways to install the version, but beware that these unofficial methods may completely damage your phone.

The severity of the modification has already been mentioned in the Redmi Note 8 Pro”

The company further adds that users, including Mi Pilot program members, are solely responsible for any damages on their devices that might result from manually installing these firmware files from unofficial platforms like Telegram.

For reasons why users shouldn’t manually install this firmware, the company redirects users to a long post explaining how the Mediatek chip on the Redmi Note 8 Pro does not support Download Mode, if ‘anything goes wrong’, therefore making it difficult to recover unless someone manages to boot into EDL Mode and have an EDL Xiaomi Account. The PSA goes on to add that the average user will not be able to install the trial version of Mi Pilots in official ways and so any other method of installation is strongly cautioned against. As such, it is advisable that users of the Redmi Note 8 Pro, wait a little longer for Xiaomi to successfully complete the testing of this firmware and roll it out to them through the official channel.
