[Updated] Pocophone F1/Poco F1 MIUI 12 update: Could overheating issue be the cause of delayed rollout?

The Pocophone F1 — aka Poco F1 — has been in line to receive the stable MIUI 12 skin for a long time. At present, the update is only available to Mi Pilot testers with devices on the Global ROM.

But even the rollout for Mi Pilot testers didn’t go as smoothly as users would have liked. As we first reported, the update was postponed for a week, and was then postponed yet again citing bugs and stability issues.

Fortunately, MIUI 12 began rolling out for the Pocophone F1 early last month. And now, Mi Pilot testers who had signed up for the beta update are testing Xiaomi’s latest skin on the device to ensure no major bugs slip through during the wider rollout.

Speaking of which, it appears that the beta stable build may have some bugs or issues that could be delaying the public rollout. And it appears that the issue could be related to the device overheating after users installed the MIUI 12 build.

According to a pinned message on the official Telegram group for Pocophone F1 MIUI 12 beta testers, a user has reported that the Pocophone F1 began overheating while recording a short 4K 30fps video.

Further, the user shared a screenshot of the overheating warning message that popped up. We’ve added the screenshot along with the user’s report below for reference:

Sir @Raghunandanbali @mibatman please solve the overheating issue with camera, I recorded a 15-20 sec 4k 30fps video then the video stopped recording and it gave me message overheating

However, this does not seem to be affecting only one beta tester. Many users have also highlighted the same problem within the group. Here are the comments from affected Pocophone F1 users on the beta stable build of MIUI 12:

As you can see from the reports above, the issue seems to be affecting multiple beta testers. Therefore, it could be one major reason why Poco has held back the MIUI 12 rollout for the Pocophone F1 to the public.

However, since Poco has not made any official statement in this regard, we can only speculate at the moment. Further, a Mi Community moderator has mentioned that the stable release should take place soon since the beta stable is already out.

It shouldn’t take much, since Beta Stable is already out. There are a few bugs to be fixed, hence the delay. You may wait for it. If you want to downgrade, you can do that anytime. Since POCO doesn’t have ARB (Anti Roll Back) protection, it’s fine to downgrade.

What this means is that we can expect to see Xiaomi release the stable MIUI 12 update for the Pocophone F1 (Poco F1) soon. But if the overheating issue isn’t resolved, it’s possible that Xiaomi may have to delay the rollout until the issue is fixed.
