[Update: Acknowledged] Poco X3 Pro reportedly suffers from lag issues despite having a flagship processor, Poco X3 NFC affected too

The Poco X3 Pro has been touted as “the fastest phone in the segment” by Poco, which is sort of true when you take raw power alone into consideration.

After all, the device comes with the Snapdragon 860, which is nearly alike to the yesteryear flagship Snapdragon 855+ processor.

Sure, it isn’t as fast as the latest Snapdragon 888 but is still a flagship nonetheless with a mighty score of 470,000+ on Antutu.

Shipping a device with a chip like this at under $250 is a feat that only Poco has been able to achieve. Previously, it was the insanely popular Poco F1, which has now been succeeded by the Poco X3 Pro.

However, despite what the benchmarks may lead one to believe, the phone is rather stuttery and laggy when it comes to real-world usage, at least according to its users [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10].

There have been several complaints about lag issues on the Poco X3 Pro ever since the device was first released. And now, as per more recent reports, the MIUI 12.5 update has done little to resolve the problem.

Just updated my poco x3 pro to the latest miui 12.5 but the ui is lagging, the animations are choppy, app drawer is lagging, apps like instagram and telegram are so stuttery. Tried a factory reset but nothing has changed.

Hello again, I have been testing MIUI 12.5.1 Global for a longer time in Poco X3 Pro and I continue to have problems when playing content at 60fps.

The lags range from stuttery animations in apps to laggy system gestures like upon pulling down the notification shade. Games aren’t spared either as they suffer from severe FPS drops.

Funny considering that the MIUI 12.5 update changelog for the device claimed that “response to gestures is now instant” and that the rendering power has been boosted by up to 20 times.

The Poco X3 Pro isn’t the only victim of this story though, as its predecessor – the Poco X3 NFC – suffers from a pretty similar set of problems, especially following the Android 11 update.

However, the Poco X3’s story is slightly different as complaints about lag issues saw a spike [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] only following the Android 11 update. FYI, the device is yet to be treated to MIUI 12.5.

But considering the fact that the MIUI 12.5 update has brought little to no change to the case of the lag issues on the Poco X3 Pro, we wouldn’t really get our hopes too high for the Poco X3 NFC.

Thus, the only thing to do now is hoping for Xiaomi/Poco to sort this mess out with a future update, as no amount of workarounds or even factory resets seem to help with the issue.

11:01 pm (IST): The lag issues on the Poco X3 NFC have now been acknowledged and have been taken up for analysis. The issues are indeed linked to Android 11, just like our investigation revealed.

03:50 pm (IST): Poco support on Twitter is asking users who’re experiencing lag on the Poco X3 Pro to send them a DM. It isn’t immediately clear what resolution the support team is suggesting.

02:02 pm (IST): The game lag/stutter and frame drop issues on the Poco X3 Pro have now been acknowledged as well, with a Poco Community mod saying that a fix may be implemented on the next MIUI 12.5 update.
