The POCO X3 NFC smartphone is and always will be a certifiable hit and the fact that the device sold over 100,000 units in just three days of its first sale is a testament to that.
After all, who in their right mind with a budget of $250 and less would not buy the near-perfect device? The Poco X3 offers all one can expect at that price point and much, much more.
The device has been touted as ‘the entertainment suite you need’ by Poco and its specs live up to that name – Snapdragon 732G processor, 6000 mAh battery, 64 MP shooter, and a 120Hz HDR10 display.
Sadly, the phone’s glory days seem to be numbered as it was firstly superseded by the Poco X3 Pro with its fancy flagship-level Snapdragon 860 processor, and now the upcoming Poco M3 Pro 5G.
Yep, there are talks about the Poco X3 NFC being discontinued when the Poco M3 Pro comes into the picture. This is because selling both the devices will result in a clash, considering that they’re to be priced very similarly.
After all, if one is looking to buy the Poco X3 specifically, they could always go for the Poco X3 Pro which is only marginally pricier than the former.
But all these talks have raised doubts in the beloved Poco X3’s userbase – will the discontinuation of the device mean reduced or no updates at all? Will the Poco X3 NFC ultimately lose its MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 13 eligibility?
Several users have been inquiring about the same on social media and it’s about time someone clears the air.
Well, obviously, the Poco X3’s discontinuation is limited to its sales alone. This means that post-discontinuation, further units of the device won’t be manufactured or sold, but WITHOUT affecting its update cycle.
After all, Xiaomi and Poco have an update policy to fulfill. Midrangers are usually treated to 2 Android updates and at least 3 MIUI version updates. Therefore, the Poco X3 will not only bag MIUI 12.5, but should also be eligible for MIUI 13 and Android 12.
This conclusion can be further solidified by this unofficial MIUI 13 eligible devices list from a very reliable source. The list is based on Xiaomi and Poco’s own update policy.
However, it is unlikely that the Poco X3 NFC would receive the MIUI 13 update in its speculated form. Poco has revealed that they’re already working on Poco UI – a MIUI spin-off but with “exclusive features for the upgraded interface.”
For now though, let’s just set our mind on the soon-to-release MIUI 12.5 stable update. You can track its progress for your device through our dedicated tracker.
