The Poco M2 Pro and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (India) are nearly alike apart from a slightly tweaked design and of course their different brandings. The former was released a couple of months after its Xiaomi counterpart.

These design changes on the Poco M2 Pro are purely cosmetic though and are limited to its back panel where there’s a new striped pattern on the bottom three-quarters along with a slightly altered camera array.

Specs-wise too, the device is again identical to the Redmi Note 9 Pro with a Snapdragon 720G processor, HDR10 supporting IPS LCD display, and a 48MP primary camera.

And if that wasn’t enough, the devices have been sharing a common problem as well. Both suffer from a serious charging issue and complaints about it have been making rounds for quite some time:

While charging with the turbo cable which is given in the box it’s automatically disconnected and connected. Many users are facing the same issue.

As clear from the above, the phone keeps disconnecting and reconnecting continuously on its own effectively making charging a very slow process.

Moreover, the screen is forced to be turned on the entire time since most Android phones have a feature where the device’s screen lights up upon being plugged.

But since the charging/disconnecting occurs in such short intervals, the screen never really gets a chance to sleep, further slowing down the charging process due to increased power consumption.

Now, the first thing that would come to mind with charging issues like these is that the cable or the port is the likely culprit. However, judging from several complaints, that definitely isn’t the case.

This is because there have been cases where the affected device is freshly purchased and even getting it replaced doesn’t help as the new unit continues to suffer from the same problem.

What’s actually sad about the charging issue on the Poco M2 Pro and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro though is the fact that complaints about it have been flowing since last year, yet there hasn’t been any signs of any bug-fixing update or any official acknowledgment about the matter.

Both devices have received several updates with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro even recently receiving the Android 11 update but nothing has really helped.

This has led to the belief that the cause of the issue is actually hardware related and is hence nothing that can be fixed through software updates. Although that’s impossible to ascertain without a statement from Xiaomi.

Still, we will continue to keep tabs on the matter so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
