The Poco F2 Pro is, without doubt, no slouch when it comes to specifications. The device has a flagship-grade spec sheet complete with the top-of-the-range Snapdragon 865 processor and a 64 MP camera.

And as most may already be aware, the device comes with 5G support which is pretty obvious considering that the Snapdragon 865 chipset was heavily advertised as being the first 5G supported chip made possible through the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem.

Does anyone have problem to connect into the 5G network? My country’s 5G network works on 3500Mhz (n78). The service is active on my SIM card, turned off the 2nd SIM, choosed the 5G is in advantage, the coverage is OK but my phone doesn’t see the 5G network.

Nonetheless, there has been a slew of complaints with regards to the 5G capabilities of the Poco F2 Pro and they have been doing rounds ever since the device was launched back in May last year.

5G support is currently limited to just a few regions because the device only supports the n77 and n78 5G bands. And users are definitely disappointed.

Now, Poco did put a tiny disclaimer at the bottom of most of their Poco F2 Pro adverts specifying the supported bands along with a note saying that 5G requires local carrier support.

5G connectivity will vary based on local operator capabilities. Connectivity enhancements will be added in conjunction with operator support where possible.

This means that buyers are obligated to check whether the device they are about to purchase is capable of working accordingly on their carrier. But as it stands, this part is something most or almost all affected users have missed.

But one can’t really put all the blame on the buyers alone. After all, terms and conditions are pretty easy to overlook. And on top of that, there’s a saying that goes “the consumer is always right”.

Also, as clear from above, Poco did mention that 5G capabilities can be enhanced and where possible, more carriers can be added too. After all, the 5G modem on the Poco F2 Pro virtually supports any combination of spectrum bands/modes.

The users seem to be aware of this and have as a result started a petition to coax Poco into unlocking the 5G bands on the Poco F2 Pro. And as more and more users vote, we are hopeful that Poco will finally give in.

However, it is important to highlight here that not everything is in the Chinese OEM’s hands as 5G support is a two-way thing. This means that both the carrier and the OEM should be in league in this.

And if the carrier doesn’t yet support the device, then there’s not much that Poco can do. Of course, nothing is impossible though.

With that being said, the Poco F2 Pro is of course eligible for the MIUI 12.5 update. Hence, you would want to keep an eye on our dedicated MIUI 12.5 update tracker.
