New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on July 16, 2020) follows:
The Poco F1 which is sold in other markets as the Pocophone F1 was first unveiled in 2018 running Android 8 Oreo. It has been almost three years now and the device is in its last leg of support.
MIUI 12, Xiaomi’s new skin on top of Android 10 has been steadily rolling out to eligible devices and the Poco F1 is in line to get this update. Yesterday, we saw reports that the update is expected to ‘hopefully’ hit those devices sometime in August.
Later that day, we saw the Poco F1 bag an update, only this was the June 2020 security patch on top of MIUI 11. Users of this device who are understandably anxious to get the MIUI 12 update have since been pushing to know the exact state of development of this new firmware for their device.
In the Frequently Asked Questions section of the above-mentioned update’s release statement, Xiaomi seeks to answer all users who keep asking about MIUI 12 for the Poco F1.
Q : Where is the MIUI 12 update?
A : MIUI 12 for POCO F1 is currently under internal testing. It will be released to Mi Pilots (selected users) as a Beta Stable when ready. Do NOT ask for ETA.
In response to yet another Poco F1 user who sought to find out why the most recent update was only incremental and not feature-packed, a Mi Community moderator confirms that;
There won’t be any new features as MIUI 11 development has stopped to make way for MIUI 12. This is just a security patch with some under-the-hood optimizations to make this ready for MIUI 12 update. You’ll get more features with MIUI 12, so stay tuned. Cheers! 🙂

If indeed the MIUI 12 build for Poco F1 is currently under internal testing and the latest incremental update was meant to lay the ground for MIUI 12, it is only a matter of time before we get a Beta build of the same, followed by a limited rollout. Going by this development, MIUI 12 might roll out to the Poco F1 in August after all. But of course, this remains subject to further confirmation from Xiaomi.
