[Update: Known issue] Poco C3 & Redmi 9 series missing split screen feature even after official website mentions it, many disappointed

All those feature additions have finally taken their toll on MIUI as Xiaomi/Poco is now being forced to disable some features on their budget offerings.

In the past, we highlighted how recent MIUI updates have disabled Control Center Gaussian blurring on some entry-level devices due to performance issues. The notification panel now has a washed-out grey colored look.

And now, Xiaomi has seemingly done away with the split-screen feature on some of their budget offerings.

When I go to recents, and long press on any app there are no options displayed, it opens the app info page. There’s no split screen in settings as well. Is anything else facing this issue as well?

The devices that are missing the split-screen feature as of now include the Poco C3, Redmi 9, and the Redmi 9C. One could say that only devices from the Redmi 9 series are affected.

It is worth mentioning here that the Poco C3 is only Xiaomi Redmi 9’s Poco counterpart and both the devices run on almost identical software. Hence, if there’s an issue on Redmi 9, then there is an extremely high likelihood of the Poco C3 being affected as well.

And what adds more fuel to the fire is the fact that the Poco C3 FAQ site does mention that the device supports split-screen. However, as already pointed out, the device’s software misses out on it.

Moreover, most will think that the feature has been disabled across all budget Poco/Xiaomi offerings since the devices are simply not capable enough. But that surprisingly is not the case.

Many users from even cheaper devices like the Redmi 9A or even the Redmi 7A report that split-screen is available and works just fine for them.

If an old device like Redmi 7A can handle the feature just fine, then the Redmi 9 should manage it like a champ.

Anyway, it could be possible that split-screen is just not optimized enough on the Redmi 9 series or the Poco C3, and has hence been disabled temporarily until Xiaomi sorts out its purported performance issues.

If that indeed is the case then one should see the feature make a comeback with a future MIUI update. Hopefully, with MIUI 12.5.
