Android smartphone vendors have mastered this art of pushing as many devices into the market as possible, some even going to the extent of creating sub-brands for the same reasons.

Huawei enjoyed massive success with its Honor sub-brand, something that turned on other vendors like Xiaomi, who came up with the popular Redmi family of devices and later Poco.

Unlike Redmi that continues to operate under the wings of Xiaomi, Poco, as you probably know already, is now an independent brand.

Of course, questions still linger regarding this independence. But that’s unlikely the reason you came to this article. Here, we talk about software updates — the Poco Android 12 update, to be precise.

Poco Android 12 update expected release date

As noted, questions still linger regarding Poco’s independence from Xiaomi. For instance, the company keeps releasing phones that are rebadged Redmi models.

Sure, Poco now has its own community forum and even a dedicated app to go with, but it still shares the same software channels with its mother company.

The same MIUI developed by Xiaomi is still at play, with the company rubbishing any talks of a potential break-away to form an in-house custom skin like Realme did after moving on from Oppo.

With this in mind, the Poco Android 12 update is still heavily dependent on Xiaomi and how fast it makes the OS available for the Redmi variants of current Poco devices.

Poco F3 is a rebadged Redmi K40

For instance, how fast the Poco F3 gets updated to Android 12 depends on how fast Xiaomi updates the Redmi K40 to the same OS. The same is true for the Poco X2 with respect to the Redmi K30.

Granted, Poco device owners can expect Android 12 update builds to start showing up for their exact models somewhere in Q4 2021, around the time public MIUI beta testing for Android 12 gains momentum.

Of course, this is just a hunch from this side of the table, but we expect Poco to make official communication at some point. We will update this story when this info comes out.

List of eligible devices

Last November, Poco revealed that it strives to provide at least two Android OS updates to its devices, but some entry-level devices may only get one OS update.

In short, there’s no proper software update policy for Poco devices, but then again, Xiaomi still handles software updates.

That said, below are the Poco devices we think will receive the update to Android 12 officially, at least based on Xiaomi’s software update policy.

– Poco F3
– Poco F2 Pro
– Poco X3 Pro
– Poco X3
– Poco X3 NFC
– Poco X2
– Poco M3
– Poco M2
– Poco M2 Pro

As you may have noticed, the Poco C3 misses out possibly on entry-level grounds for a device that came pre-installed with Android 10 and so does the Poco F1, but on the basis of age.

But since this isn’t an official list, expect changes if and when Poco provides the official details of its Android 12 update roadmap.
