Some Pixel users want Google to replace single-tap with double-tap to wake or sleep screen gesture

Recently, gestures have become an integral part of any smartphone UI, including Google Pixels. They make things a lot more intuitive and offer better ease of use.

But having been around for only a few years, gestures are still an evolving thing, which explains why some Pixel users have recently been asking for a specific gesture to interact better with the phone.

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8), multiple Google Pixel owners are facing issues while using their smartphones due to the single-tap gesture.

As opposed to smartphones from other manufacturers, the latest Pixel devices don’t come with in-built support for the double-tap to wake or the gesture to double-tap to send the screen to sleep.

Due to this, those who migrate to Pixel smartphones get confused and are facing difficulties in properly operating or handling their devices.

A Pixel 7 owner says that due to the single tap feature, they have messed up their device’s home screen, in-app data, playlists, and much more countless times.

Shifted from oneplus to Google. There are a lot of things that i miss from my oneplus experience. No 1 feature that i miss is double tap on homepage to lock the screen. is there any way we can do this? or anyway to ask the developers to bring this feature?

Just bought a new Pixel 6a. Just want to know if there is any settings that I can turn on double tap to lock cuz I only found tap to wake feature. Kinda miss that feature from my old LG V50 phone and I just dont want to interact with power button so often.

It is also worth mentioning that this is a limitation of the Pixel Launcher. Even though the issue was escalated last year on the Google Issue Tracker, no follow-up has ever been made until now.

Pixel users are now once again requesting Google to resolve the issue. In the meantime, you can try using third-party launchers to access the double-tap to wake or sleep screen gesture.

We do hope that Google listens to the request and implements the changes on its Pixel Launcher and devices as soon as possible.

That said, we’ll keep tabs on the issue and update this article as and when something noteworthy comes up.
